Protection During Lightning Storms
Park
City experiences some pretty severe electrical storms in the spring and fall.
You should protect all your electrical equipment from a possible lightning
strike. Surge Protectors are great for normal surges of electricity; however,
lightning produces such high voltage the spike can jump right through the protection
circuits in a surge protector. Some
surge protectors carry an insurance policy which may replace equipment if
damaged by lightning.
Whenever we have a lightning storm approaching or you are going to be gone
from your home or business during lightning season, it’s a good idea to
unplug all the computer equipment from the wall outlet including peripheral
devices. Don’t forget to unplug your phone line from the modem port or DSL
modem.
These precautions will better ensure your computers survival during
electrical storms.
